Clean Sweep U.S.A.
A “Keep America Beautiful” Community

Keep America Beautiful has launched an exciting new, web-based educational program for students and teachers. The program, Clean Sweep U.S.A., is interactive and includes lesson plans and evaluation tools for teachers. Educators can download lesson plans and evaluation material directly from the website.

The program features a fictional town, Clean Sweep U.S.A., and a colorful collection of citizens who lead visitors through the solid waste issues the town must tackle. Activities and information focus on recycling, composting, landfills, source reduction, and waste management.

The interactive puzzles and games on the Clean Sweep U.S.A. website can be used in the classroom to help students become familiar with the real-life issues associated with municipal solid waste. The website is also designed to encourage students to continue learning about these issues by doing independent research.

This program is only one of several educational resources available to teachers and students. Other programs include Waste in Place, a K-6 classroom curriculum designed to build critical thinking and problem solving skills in relation to solid waste management.

Clean Sweep U.S.A. is a free educational program and can be accessed by going to Keep America Beautiful’s website at www.kab.org/cleansweepusa
